KANAVU PADIKATTU runs free evening coaching centres for children from Trichy's urban slums, Sri Lankan refugee camps, and HIV/AIDS-affected families — giving them structured learning outside broken school systems.
Beyond education, we identify malnourished children and provide nutritional support through dedicated health events — because a hungry child cannot learn.
Every year, 150 children receive full education funds and study materials — books, uniforms, stationery — removing the financial barrier that pulls them out of school.
Children with learning disabilities receive dedicated skill development training — ensuring no child is left behind due to a condition they were born with.
Our Goal Is to Educate
Since 2012, Manitham Trust has been running evening study centres for the most marginalised children in Trichy and surrounding areas. Children of manual scavengers, sanitary workers, daily wage labourers, and Sri Lankan refugees — children the system has consistently failed.
KANAVU PADIKATTU does not just teach academics. It provides a safe space, a warm meal, emotional support, and a caring adult in the life of a child who often has none. Every child enrolled is monitored individually — their attendance, nutrition, and academic progress tracked and reported.
Who We Serve
Children from urban slums, Sri Lankan refugee camps, HIV/AIDS-affected families, cancer patient families, orphaned children, and children of manual scavengers and sanitary workers across Trichy and Pudukkottai.
What We Provide
Free evening coaching, study materials, educational funds, nutrition support, skill development training, inter-school exposure tours, and individual academic monitoring — all at zero cost to the family.
Our Impact
In two years alone, we reduced the school dropout rate among Sri Lankan refugee children from 450 to 80. Since 2012, over 65 single-parented orphan and semi-orphan children have received continuous care and education support.
